Dickie Abbott
Vocals |
Since rescinding his title as "Mr Wessex" in 1983, Dickie has been constantly searching for a way back to public adulation. He seems to have found it as lead singer of Drop the Fish, where his strong vocal style fits perfectly.
Drop the Fish was Dickie's first band, which he joined after being spotted by Steve and Simon singing at a charity do. Since then, he's built a huge amount of respect for consistent delivery of quality vocals.
Dickie's body is a temple and when he's not rehearsing he goes for long runs in the woods (yes, that's what we thought too).
Favourite artists: Paul Weller, Stereophonics
Best Gigs: The Specials,
Most likely to say: "Which way's Muscle Beach?"
Least likely to say: "Shall we go for a curry after?"
Prized possessions: The Paul Weller portrait in his kitchen
Do say: "Quality vocals Dickie"
Don't say: "You'd better be good tonight mate or you and me are gonna be rolling round the floor" (Yes it actually happened, when an audience member thought he could intimidate our main man! We sorted him out though.. by being really good that night)

Simon Smith
Bass
|
Simon started playing bass about 5 years ago with the express intention of getting into a band. He teamed up with Steve in a previous outfit and now they are pretty much wed in the cause of straight, tight, unpretentious grooves.
Simon fits the bassist stereotype in so many ways, but, despite appearances, he always assures us he's having a great time!
Favourite bands: Stones, Public Enemy, Prodigy
Best Gigs: Stones at Wembley and Millenium Stadium, Goldie Lookin Chain at V Festival
Most likely to say: "Shall we try that again from the top?"
Least likely to say: "No thanks, I'll have an orange juice instead."
Prized possessions: His camper van and his tractor
Do say: "That's a nice rig"
Don't say: "Where's your dancing bear tonight then, mate?"

Steve Haines
Drums and vocals
|
Known as "Two Brains" Haines, Steve is probably one of the best drummers this side of the A303 (north of a line formed by the Salisbury to Romsey railway, bisected by the road to West Tytherley).
Steve truly is the brains of the band - not just a brilliant drummer but the musical arranger and director of Drop the Fish. Steve has been drumming since the age of two and it shows (there are dribble marks all over his snare).
Several of our numbers give Steve the chance to show off what he does best and audiences always show their appreciation for his drumming prowess. His varied, precise style keeps the set fresh, upbeat and lively (but don't worry there are no 20 minute drum solos to endure).
Favourite artists: Monet and Rolf Harris
Most likely to say: "No, no, no, it's the third beat of bar 16 where you come in".
Least likely to say: "How does this one start?"
Prized possessions: That'll be the Pearl Masters Custom snare drum (boring!)
Do say: "What's the band's availability for my birthday/anniversary/other special occasion?"
Don't say: "Gosh, that looks like a lot of kit to have to carry about.."

Jon Card
Guitar and vocals
|
Acclaimed by renowned music critic Martin Staniforth as the "most rock an roll" of them all, Jon joined Drop the Fish in 2010 to complete the rhythm section and to provide backing vocals. He's fitted in perfectly and his self-effacing outlook belies his natural raw talent.
When he's not rockin out, Jon is inspired by British and American motorcycles and can be found polishing his cam shaft at all hours of the day and night. A legend in the making.
Favourite artists: Led Zeppelin
Best Gigs: AC/DC 1979. Awesome!
Most likely to say: "Keep on rockin in the free world"
Least likely to say: "Make mine a Babycham"
Prized possessions: His Jack Russell and motorbikes, of course
Do say: "Let's ROCK!"
Don't say: "Is that your amp humming again Jon?"

Roy Shergold
Lead guitar and backing vox
|
Known as "Labrynth", on account of the vertigo he sometimes suffers from being so tall, Roy is a top lead guitarist, well known throughout Salisbury for his rock solos.
Roy totes a Gibson and Stratocaster and uses them to great effect. A subtle, rather than out-and-out shattered eardrums performer, Roy brings a thoughtful and bluesy influence to the band.
Favourite artists:
Most likely to say: "1, 2, 3, 4..."
Least likely to say: "This Gibson's killin me, it's so heavy"
Prized possessions:
Do say: "Can you do me an Axminster with high quality underlay?"
Don't say: "Your massive van is blocking me in." |

Ian McDonald
Sound |
Ian has spent his life in and around the music industry, much of it as a sound engineer doing all sorts of different stuff . He has also been a sound consultant to tours by huge bands such as The Who. The quality of sound Ian achieves for Drop the Fish is phenomenal and has been key to the band's success. Ian is also a very talented classically-trained violinist and he plays regularly with Salisbury Sinfonia, amongst others.
Favourite Artists: Pink Floyd Bonamassa Elgar
Best Gigs: DTF at SalisburyLive - of course!
Most Likely to Say: "That should be a C#, not a C".
Least Likely to Say: "It won't go any louder"
Prized Possessions: His Massive IVYSOUND 'Festival' Stage Rig (available for hire).
Do Say: "Can you play The Lark Ascending?" (He can).
Don't Say: "I thought classical musicians weren't supposed to like rock music". |
